Handmade by Sophie Wilson in her c. 1690 house, The Fens, England, for Salter House.
Handbuilt terracotta ashet (a shallow oval dish or large plate, like a platter) embellished with white slip and sgraffito, an applied surface detail technique of decoration in relief. Frogs, pea pods and fallen acorn seeds hide amongst pears and caterpillars in a tangle of courgette foliage and tendrils, glazed in muddy yellows and light-on-leaf greens. Ribbons, inspired by Volckamer’s 18th century Nurnbergische Hesperides prints, drape the flora and fauna gaily in a sort of blue-verdigris.
Hand wash only.
Each Ashet is Unique
