Cat-shaped butter dish, handmade by Sophie Wilson in her c. 1690 house, The Fens, England, for Salter House.
Sophie Wilsons oversized butter dish is handmade with a marbled glaze. It is based on the form of a 19th c. "Opium Pillow"; ceramic vessels made to hide your valuables in, and shaped to rest your neck upon while lounging in a sedated state, keeping your head cool and elevated. We use ours for keeping butter in, and do like to lay down on it after an intense baking session!
