Made in collaboration with Loeffler Randall, our take on the Leonie ballet flat incorporates an embroidered bow and ribbon, reminiscent of storybook illustration and stage sets.
Our Salter House designs often explore how an image, a motif, is changed by its material applications. Here we've used an illustration-style rendering that flattens the volume, like flat illusions that are common in ballet's staging, trompe l'oeil backdrops, costumes... and shoes.
An important reference was The Twelve Dancing Princesses (illustrated by Anne Calton), a children’s book Sandeep was obsessed with when she was young… to make an everyday shoe with fantasy and levity. We love to see how an illustrative style is rendered in embroidery, to make something that is feminine, but still a little “off.” The ribbon is rendered imperfectly, it has crinkles and character, like it’s been worn all night, dancing.
This shoe fits true to size, please see the size guide for more details and conversions.
